Rotary flap peening (also called “flapper peening”) was first developed by 3M Corporation in the 1960s for U.S. Army helicopter field repair during the Vietnam war. Rotary flap peening is widely used in the aerospace industry today because it’s ideal for peening small areas on new or repaired parts. Rotary flap peening can also be done in the field, making the time-consuming and expensive disassembly and transportation of components unnecessary.
